The legitimacy of mail and digital marketing is aided by the CAN SPAM Act, released to protect legitimate marketers and prevent unsolicited email. Everlytic makes use of 2 email footers and both are CAN SPAM compliant.
What does CAN SPAM stand for?
The acronym CAN-SPAM derives from the bill’s full name: Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003. This is also a play on the usual term for unsolicited email of this type, spam.
The CAN-SPAM act became law in the United States in 2004 and all email communications have to comply with it. In South Africa, we do not have to abide by this law but Everlytic includes CAN-SPAM footers, simple because it’s email best practice and it legitimises your outgoing email.
Just because it’s bulk, doesn’t mean it’s spam
Unless you’re not compliant with best practices. This is one of the reasons we include the CAN-SPAM footer as part of your email. The other that it assists with the deliverability of your campaigns. You can stay compliant by adhering to these extra tips too.
- Don’t use deceptive or non-existent From-Names, Reply e-mail addresses or Subject lines.
- Always include an Unsubscribe/Opt Out link. This is non negotiable, as it’s a legal requirement in South Africa.
- Ensure that your Unsubscribe link works.
- Include the physical address and the contact details of your company.
